Skiing deluxe at the Poppengut

Fresh mountain air, 40 kilometres of the finest pistes and the charm of a ski area that wins people over with quality and fair prices – that is Hinterstoder. From the Poppengut it is only two minutes on the free ski bus to the Hössbahn. No stress, no rush – simply get on and go.

But the fun does not end on the piste. After the last turn of the day: dive into the pool, warm up in the sauna or put your legs up for a massage – and in the evening our kitchen spoils you with five courses, on Wednesdays with the Weinwirt at the Steirischer Abend, the Styrian evening at the Gasthof Jaidhaus, five minutes on foot. Fun on the piste, good food and time to unwind, all of it close together.

Skiing and snowboarding in Hinterstoder

The World Cup village right outside the door: the gondola takes you from the village centre up to the Hutterer Böden and on to the Höss – all the way to the Schafkogel at 2,000 metres. Wide pistes, the 3.5-kilometre World Cup run named after Hannes Trinkl, the “Snowtrail” with banked turns and rollers and the Sunny Kids Park for the little ones.

Skiing and snowboarding on the Wurzeralm

The snow-sure family plateau: up by funicular, then chairlifts and T-bar lifts almost to 1,900 metres at the Frauenkar. Wide, open pistes, the “Bären-Achter” circuit for families and a children's area with a magic carpet and a ski carousel. With the Hinterstoder/Wurzeralm ski pass you ski in both areas.

From the ski room to the pool – everything a skier needs is in the house or a few steps away.

The free ski bus stops at the house and takes you to the Hössbahn in two minutes; on foot it is ten. Skis and boots stay in the ski room with its boot dryer – in the morning they are warm and dry.

The latest equipment for beginners, for experts and for families is available at INTERSPORT Pachleitner and SPORT 2000 Huber near the valley station. The Wintersportschule Stodertal teaches skiing and snowboarding for every age and every ability.

The Hinterstoder/Wurzeralm ski pass is valid in both areas – around 62 kilometres of piste. Prices are dynamic: buy online early and you pay less.

Pool, sauna, massage
Indoor and outdoor pool at 28 to 30 degrees, Finnish sauna, cabin sauna and steam bath – all of it included. A massage or a hay bath is best booked together with your room.

Winter without skis

If you do not ski, there is just as much to do in the Stodertal – and we come along.

Cross-country skiing

25 kilometres of valley trail

The cross-country trail runs from the edge of the village to the end of the valley through the winter landscape of the Stodertal. On the Hutterer Böden at 1,400 metres there is also a high-altitude trail of around four kilometres with a skating lane.

Tobogganing

Natural toboggan run until 23:00

1.2 kilometres, 200 metres of descent, floodlit: the natural toboggan run ends at the Landhotel Gressenbauer, 600 metres from the Poppengut, and when there is enough snow it is open daily until 23:00. The toboggan taxi takes you to the start.

30 kilometres of cleared paths

A gentle walk to the Schiederweiher or a long one through the valley: 30 kilometres of winter walking paths lead across the snow-covered valley floor. Our hiking guides come along in winter too.
