Movement is life – relaxed, unhurried, a source of new energy. Hinterstoder has something special for runners, too: the Bewegungsarena (activity arena) with four signposted running and walking routes and around 33 kilometres in all, through gentle countryside against the backdrop of the mountains, along the river Steyr and past the Schiederweiher. They all start right at the hotel, and every route is GPS-measured and colour-coded.
After a long loop, cool off at the Kneipp water-treading pool with its barefoot trail and organ clock – right beside your route.

Winter · on your own or with our hiking guide
Discover the romantic Stodertal away from the pistes – the whole region is a paradise for winter and snowshoe walkers. Untouched landscapes, wonderful views, quiet and pure relaxation are what make it special: a winter experience close to nature, drawing your own line through the powder snow. We set out whatever the snow is doing – on snowshoes when there is enough of it, otherwise on foot along cleared paths.
Snowshoeing is quickly learned. On snowshoes you move deep into a winter world of enchantment, the thoughts of everyday life grow quiet and a feeling of familiarity and safety spreads. With every step in the snow, ordinary life falls a little further behind.

approx. 2 ½ hrs · approx. 300 m ascent
A high-alpine snowshoe walk in the Totes Gebirge, suitable for everyone. A leisurely climb to 2000 m with a view of the Rottal and the Dachstein – especially magical in spring.
By gondola to the middle station of the Hutterer Höss, then on the 6-seater “Höss-Express” chairlift to the top station. From there we walk on snowshoes towards the Schafkögel (2000 m), starting at the Schrocken with a glorious view of the Rottal and across to the Dachstein. We descend to the Schneeofen, a large sinkhole in the limestone that served the shepherds as a snow store in summer – a short rest in the snow, then back to the Höss top station.
By the Hössbahn cable car – two minutes by ski bus, ten minutes on foot

A leisurely family snowshoe walk from Vorderstoder up to the Steyrsbergerreith, an ancient low alpine pasture, with a view of the mountains of the Stodertal. In summer it is worth walking on to the Hutterer Almen.
The starting point is Vorderstoder. From there you walk gently on snowshoes across meadows and through snow-covered beech woods, climbing slightly towards the Wildalm, and after about an hour you reach the Steyrsbergerreith hut (not staffed in winter). A short rest with a wonderful view of the mountains of the Stodertal. The way down leads over the Wartegg straight back to the hotel.
On a guided walk by hiking bus to Vorderstoder, on your own by taxi (arranged at reception)
approx. 3 ½ hrs · approx. 400 m ascent
A demanding snowshoe walk at the foot of the Kleiner Pyhrgas to an idyllically situated alpine pasture with a panoramic view over the Windischgarsten valley.
The starting point is Spital am Pyhrn (Oberweng). From there we walk on snowshoes, climbing gently, to the start of the Gowilalm route. The path runs mostly through forest and grows steadily a little steeper; after about an hour and a half we reach the Gowilalm with its glorious view of the Großer and Kleiner Pyhrgas – a particularly lovely pasture, an insider tip in summer and winter alike, and reachable only on foot.
On a guided walk by hiking bus to Spital am Pyhrn, on your own by car
Please keep an eye on the avalanche report, the weather and your equipment – most huts are not staffed in winter.
Spring to autumn
